Hi, I'm Dave. I'm Glad You're Here.
Reaching out for counselling isn't easy. Most people who contact me have been carrying things on their own for a long time — pushing through, hoping it will pass, telling themselves they should be able to handle it.
If that sounds like you, I want you to know something. You're not broken. Nothing is “wrong” with you. Whatever you're feeling — your mind and body are usually just trying to protect you, in the only way they know how.
You don't have to have everything figured out before reaching out. Whether you're recovering after a car accident, feeling overwhelmed by anxiety, struggling in your relationship, or simply feeling stuck — we'll take the time to understand what's actually happening, together. Once that starts to make sense, practical change tends to follow.
I won't pretend to have all the answers. But I will listen without judgment, and walk alongside you at whatever pace feels right.
Support That Meets You Where You Are
You don't need to arrive with a tidy explanation of what's wrong. Most people just know that something isn't right — and that's enough of a place to start.
If Any of These Sound Familiar, You're Not Alone
These are some of the most common things people describe when they first reach out. Many people come to counselling feeling exhausted from constantly managing stress, anxiety, or relationship tension — and the pressure to keep it all together. If any of these resonate, they are all things counselling can genuinely help with.
You Don't Have to Keep
Carrying This Alone
Many people who reach out have been carrying things on their own for a long time. They've pushed through. Minimized what they're experiencing. Told themselves other people have it worse. If that sounds familiar, you're not alone — and you don't have to keep doing it that way.
Healing doesn't begin when you try harder. It begins when what you're experiencing finally starts to make sense. Counselling gives you a place to slow down, understand what's happening, and begin moving forward — at a pace that works for you.

A Counsellor Who Gets It
Hi, I'm Dave Dyck. Before I was a counsellor, I worked in construction. It's a world that teaches you to solve problems by working harder — you push through, you get it done. So when I ran into struggles in my own life that didn't respond to that approach, it took me a while to understand why. It turns out some things aren't solved by trying harder. They're solved by understanding yourself differently.
That realization changed how I saw everything, and it's why I became a counsellor. I'm a Canadian Certified Counsellor (MC, CCC) based in Nanaimo, and I've spent years working with people who felt stuck, overwhelmed, and not quite sure how they got there. Most of them were doing their best — they just didn't have a space to slow down and make sense of what was actually going on. I believe people are almost always more capable than they think. Nothing is “wrong” with you — your mind and body are usually just trying to protect you.
I work with individuals, couples, and families navigating trauma after accidents, anxiety, men's mental health, and relationship struggles. I'm an ICBC-registered provider, so if you were in a motor vehicle accident, counselling may already be covered for you. Whether you have a clear sense of what you need or you're not sure where to start — that's okay. We'll figure it out together.
Sessions are conversational and practical — focused on real change, not just talking about change. I won't tell you what to do or how to feel. But I will listen carefully, help you understand why you're feeling the way you are, and walk with you toward a way forward that actually fits your life.

What Clients Are Saying
I was in an accident last year and ICBC recommended I seek counselling. I don't think I needed it but soon realized I did. I can't begin to express how patient, understanding and wonderful Dave was. He helped me realize that you can only control what you can control. Something I tell myself everyday. Thank you so much Dave!
I recently started seeing Dave and I'm very grateful for his time and the counselling/service. Highly recommend! 🞨
