Your privacy is not just a legal obligation — it is a cornerstone of the trust we build together. This policy explains how Rediscovered Purpose Counselling Services collects, uses, and protects your personal information in accordance with the BC Personal Information Protection Act (PIPA) and the Canadian Counselling and Psychotherapy Association (CCPA) Code of Ethics.

1 Who We Are

Rediscovered Purpose Counselling Services is operated by Dave Dyck, MC, CCC, a Canadian Certified Counsellor registered with the Canadian Counselling and Psychotherapy Association (CCPA). Services are provided in-person in Nanaimo and across Vancouver Island (beginning mid-June 2026), and virtually to clients throughout British Columbia.

4 Confidentiality & Limits of Confidentiality

Everything discussed within counselling sessions is strictly confidential. As a CCPA-registered counsellor, Dave Dyck adheres to the CCPA Code of Ethics regarding client confidentiality.

Limits of confidentiality: There are specific situations where confidentiality may be legally required to be broken, including: (1) where there is imminent risk of serious harm to yourself or another identifiable person; (2) where abuse or neglect of a child or vulnerable adult is suspected; or (3) where a court order compels disclosure. These limits will be clearly explained at the beginning of your first session.

5 Storage & Protection of Your Information

Your personal information is stored securely and protected against unauthorized access, disclosure, or misuse. We take reasonable physical, electronic, and procedural safeguards appropriate to the sensitivity of the information.

Client records are retained for a minimum of 7 years following the end of the therapeutic relationship, as required under BC professional standards. Records related to minors are retained until the individual reaches age 25, or for 7 years after the last session, whichever is longer.

6 Virtual Sessions & Technology

Virtual counselling sessions are conducted using secure, encrypted video platforms. Clients are responsible for ensuring they are in a private location during virtual sessions to protect their own confidentiality.

We recommend that clients do not participate in sessions from shared or public spaces. Session recordings are never made without your explicit written consent.

7 Insurance & Third-Party Billing

If you choose to use direct billing to an extended health insurance provider, ICBC (for motor vehicle accident claims), or to access autism funding, limited personal and session information will be shared with the relevant third party as required to process the claim. This may include your name, date of birth, claim number, session dates, and service codes. You will be informed of exactly what information is shared before any submission is made.
